  • Places to Play Chess in Western Connecticut

    ·       Newtown Chess Club meets Saturday afternoons from 1~5 at the C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, Newtown. All equipment is provided. Open to all, regardless of ability. US Chess Federation Expert Glenn Budzinski is the host.
    ·      Danbury Library Chess Club meets Thursday afternoons from 5~6:30 at the Danbury Library, 170 Main Street, Danbury. Equipment is provided, as well as snacks. Open to those 18 years of age or younger. No charge. Bill Mattson is the host.

    . Brass City Mall, Waterbury Food Court: Chess is played casually most afternoons and evenings. There are no formal meetings, just a gathering of typically 6 or more players. Blitz (5-minute) chess is the game of choice. It is not unusual for several players of Expert strength to be present.

    . Bethel Library Chess Club has Wednesday meetings planned on April 19 & May 3 at the Bethel Public Library, 189 Greenwood Ave., Bethel. Open only to Grades 1 ~7 “kids who already understand the basic moves and rules of the game and are looking for an opportunity to play.” Must register two weeks before each meeting by calling 203-794-8756 ext 5.
